Western Maryland Railway Thurmont - Warehouse

This section includes photos I have taken of the Western Maryland Freight House in Thurmont, Maryland

On a cool evening in December 2003, I took these photos of the former WMRY right of way in Thurmont Maryland. What I previously thought was the old WM freight house has actually turned out to be a warehouse that received and shipped via the WM. (Thanks for the correct, Doug!) It was getting dark, so the photos aren't all that crisp. I'll take some additional detail photos in the future and add them here.

Looking East

Here is the track looking east. The former warehouse is the building at about 11:00 that has six visible windows. The old train station in Thurmont used to sit on a siding to the left of the tracks near the freight house.

Northwest Corner

The rear of the warehouse as seen from the western end of the tracks. Notice the old platform-height door and the stone foundation for the old platform. Note also the garage door at the bottom. From the looks of the foundation, there was likely a door there originally.

Southeast Corner

The warehouse as seen from the street. The tracks heading off to the left in this photo lead to the overpass seen in the first shot.

Northeast Corner

The front and side of the warehouse as seen from the eastern end of the tracks.

Looking to the West

Another shot of the front (eastern) side of the station. Note again the stone foundation as well as the numerous doors and windows at street level.
