WM #62 F7A from Highliners Kit - Fans
Install Exhaust and Dynamic Brake Fans
Once I reamed out that fan hole, I installed the set of four exhaust fans.
I test-fit them first, and decided it was a bit snug. I filed a small
chamfer on the bottom edges to make it sit better (I ended up doing this with
allmost all large flat pieces on the model) When the fit is good, pop the
fan set back out with a pencil eraser from the inside.
Cementing the exhaust fans in place from the inside did not work very
well. This is because the only openings you have are the fan hole
openings. In addition, this was the step in which I found out that the
plastruct styrene cement wasn't doing the job.
The easiest way to glue the exhaust fans in place, for me, was to put a few
drops of the Testor's cement on the flat surfaces of the shell where the fan
panels will attach, and then press the fan panel in place and hold it until it
dried. Don't use too much cement or it will come up through the
sides. If you do that, don't fear. The shell is so slick that a
quick wipe with a soft rag will easily clean up any over spill here.
Installation of the dynamic brake fan takes a bit more trial an error.
When installing it, you want to reduce the hump in the middle and sides so the
panel doesn't stand out much more than the other top panels. I did this
by chamfering all bottom edges of the panel and also by chamfering the inside
edge of the panel support on the shell. I also gave the two side edges a
couple swipes with a flat needle file. While doing this, keep checking
for fit.
Before you cement the fan panel in place, follow the directions and use the
panel to shape the etched fan covers. I neglected to do this, so I will
have to use my other shell for this when the time comes.
Press-fit the dynamic brake fan into the shell, making sure it is in evenly, and
cement from the inside.
When done, the top will look like this :

For reference, here's the shell prior to any cleanup. You can see how the
exhaust and dynamic brake fans mount.
