WM F7A #62 From a Highliners F Unit "A" Kit

I picked this kit up in August 2003 down in Petersburg, VA at Walt's Hobby Shop. I picked a second one up during the same month at Tommy Gilbert's in Gettysburg, PA, and a third in September 2003 at Mainline Hobby in Blue Ridge Summit, PA

Project Start Date : September 10, 2003

Latest Update : March 7, 2005

Project Finish Date : (unfinished)

The most recently added step is the White Metal Body Details step.

Here's a photo of the kit

The kit has everything you need to make the basic shell minus the long chicken-wire/farr grills and some related grill panel work.  Those items are a separate purchase.

Note for Western Maryland Fans modeling 1955 and on: The WM had large MU doors on both sides of the front headlight on the F Units.  These were installed in 1955 (pre 1955 had no MU on the front, to the best of my knowledge)  This kit comes with only one large and one small photo-etched door.  It does not appear that you can purchase the fret separately.  Your best bet will be barter with someone who is modeling pre-1955 WM or another road that does not use the large MU doors.

To complete this locomotive, you would plop the shell on top of an Athearn Genesis or Stewart F Unit mechanism.  Obviously, if you want to super-detail it, you can purchase third-party pieces and scratchbuild others.

It should be noted that Athearn uses the tooling from this kit to create their own F Units
