Western Maryland BL2 #81

Prototype Locomotive Manufacturer EMD
Model Manufacturer Like-Like
Model Run Proto 2000 : Initial Run
Scale HO
Date Acquired August 2002 (81)

There's just something strangly fascinating about the BL2.  It really is an ugly locomotive, but ugly in an interesting way :-)

Much like the real thing, this BL2 doesn't run all that well.  However, it does run a lot better now that I received and installed the replacement wheels and gears from Life-Like (the original gears had all cracked, giving the locomotive a bit of a limp).  The version I have is the old Life-Like version, so converting it to DCC and decent couplers will be a bit of work :-)

Here's the locomotive before any work (other than removing the horn-hook couplers) was done

More photos coming as the models progress!

Here is a site with some nice BL2 information http://exotic.railfan.net/BL2.htm (unaffiliated site, opens in new window)
