Chaffee Branch Sub-roadbed

On November 22, 2003, I put together the first part of the Chaffee branch sub-roadbed.  This part of the layout is going to be my proving ground, to see if Proto:87 makes sense for the layout I have planned, and the equipment I plan to run.

I'm not happy with the subroadbed for the following two reasons :

1) Lack of support in front of the window

2) The subroadbed "twists" too much going up around that corner.  Because of that, you end up with a strange twisting super-elevation to the curve.

To remedy the above, I am going to try pine or masonite splines for this section.  If that test works, I will use that in other places on the layout where I have steep grades (Shay territory) and tight corners.

I couldn't resist screwing down some temporary flextrack and running the shay up the grade!
