Hummingbirds

Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris)

I took these photos on April 29, 2003.  The setup was similar to the April 26 photos below, except I used the zoom lens on the camera, and the day was a bit sunnier.  The use of the 2x accessory lens made it so I could get photos where the hummingbird took up a much larger portion of the full image, therefore giving me much crisper detail.  The battery on the camera remote was dying, so I had to sit only a couple feet away from the feeder (there was a porch screen between me and the feeder, however).  I could really hear the hummers coming in :-)

The above photo was used on Morning Song Food's new web site.

I'm ready for my closeup now, Mr DeMille :-)

I think I heard a weird beeping coming from over there...

After setting up the camera and hiding with the camera remote control patiently near the feeder, the hummingbird visited and I was able to take these snaps.   The camera was on a tripod (with no accessory lenses, but at full zoom) at the very edge of our deck.  Photos taken by Pete on April 26, 2003

Female Hummingbird high up in a tree resting.  She stayed there for about ten minutes before a Blue Jay landed and scared her off.  Photo taken by Pete on April 28, 2003

Here is where the feeder is located :

In case you were looking for them, I removed the older blurry hummingbird photos.
